Overview

Essex has four selective grammar schools — two in Colchester and two in the Southend-on-Sea area (Westcliff). The competition is less intense than in Kent or London, but the schools are strong academic performers and entry is still competitive. Colchester Royal Grammar School is particularly well-regarded.
